1. What is IELTS
IELTS is abbrevation for International English Language Testing System.
It is a global test that measures efficiency in English with respect to speaking and reading. It is given golbally by Cambridge University Press (CUP). Each section includes several secition that require the individuals to show their understanding of grammar, vocabulary, structuring of sentences, and word pronunciation. It is creatd to test the skills necessary for better communication in non professional and professional surroundings.
Ielts test score is in a range of zero (0) and nine (9) that demonstrates level of proficients of a person in the ielts exam, where higher scores indicate better understanding. The IELTS examination is used in excess of 9,000 institutes exceeding 160 countries.
There are two types of section in each module:
a) General Training Paper (GTP) meant for individuals wanting to study or work at an English-speaking organization, but may not need to meet any particular requirement for their academics or work
b) Academic Paper (AP), which is for those who want to study at an English-speaking institution with specific requirements or work in an occupation that requires them to meet certain language requirements
2. IELTS section
The IELTS Academic version examines your proficiency in reading, listening, speaking, writing, and grammar thus IELTS test has four parts: reading, writing, listening and speaking. The reading and writing sections are multi-choice exams. The listening and speaking sections are done through a live teacher (an examiner ) who will then allocate you a score out of 9.
You can get scores from 1 to 9 for each section which make up your total score out of 45.You need to score at least 6 bands (out of 9) in each section to pass.
3. Section contents
Both versions have four sections: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. Each section consists of 4 tasks.
4. IELTS exam tip
The reading and writing modules are combined in one paper called the "ielts general training" paper. The listening and speaking modules are combined in one paper called the "ielts academic" paper.
